I tried to shoot a documentary style video for the beautiful song “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars. The idea was to collect as much as living portraits as possible.
The project was constructed in order to numb my pain.
This heavy dose of pins poking feeling of not able to see my baby daughter.
At work, the radio play this song at least 3 times a day. And every time, I get so emotional, specially the last climax part. Long story short, I decided to turn my pain into pleasure. Visuals.
The editing is pretty simple. Very “Empire State Of Mind”.
Nothing cheesy. No synchronizing to the beat. Well…not all along.
What I really wanted to push is the “climax” part. The part where I cry like a bitch thinking about my daughter.
This time, from now on, when I see the climax, it gives me a pleasure to see it again and again.
Only this time…I smirk with a bit of proud..ness.
I’m happy to meet all the people during this 3 weekend journey. From all around the world.
Some of them even pre-welcomed me and offered accommodation when I visit their homeland.
We shot for 3 weekends. Each Saturday for 2 hours.
6 hours of shooting in needle poking cold, extreme wind and snow.
We have put some very hard work.
Hard work meaning, I have a full time job. Margie has work/school.
After shooting she will go straight to work. I will go straight to edit as much as I can.
Trust me, with a depressing weather and a work shift starting at 4pm, and you are out shooting instead of sleeping and getting rest..? She dedicated her time for 3 weekends. Thank you Margie!
You can check her niche visionary visuals on her blog here.
A huge thank-yous for those who devoted their time for this project.
For respecting my directions in blistering wind and needle pinching cold and snow!
To sharing their stories. To welcoming me into their homeland. AND FOR UNDERSTANDING ART!
Without these subjects, I could have never completed this project. I would have never found the “drug” to suppress the pain. Thank you!
We lost some footage due to the drop of the camera. The second weekend was extremely windy to the point to knock off the tripod. Chloe and the California girls were lost. We are deeply sorry that we couldn’t embark you ladies in the video.
All shot with the Nikon D5000. 50mm 1.8

LONG LIVE ART!

We truly believe that your song is used fairly.
We have an iTunes invoice of the purchase of your “Doo-Wops & Hooligans”.
If you feel any uncomfortableness, I will remove it from the net.
